Overview:
Located in central-western Wyoming, Star Valley is a beautiful alpine
valley
ringed by the Salt River Mountain Range in the east, the Caribou
Mountain
Range on the west and the Snake River Range to the north. Star Valley
is
surrounded by three National forests, the Bridger-Teton National
Forest, the
Caribou National Forest and the Targhee National Forest. The average
elevation of the valley is 6000 feet, and it is approximately 50 miles
long and
10 miles wide.
Alpine, Afton and Thayne are the only incorporated towns in the
Valley. Other communities include Etna, Freedom, Grover, Smoot,
Fairview, Osmond,
Auburn, Bedford and Turnerville. The Snake River, Salt River and the
Greys
River meet at Alpine to form the Palisades Reservoir, a 20 mile long
lake with
some of the best trout fishing in the west.
Just south of Alpine is the Wyoming Elk Refuge and feed ground, where
approximately 1000 elk spend the winters and located north-east of
Afton is the worlds largest cold water geyser (Intermittent or
Periodic Spring).
You will find us located on U.S. Highway 89 along the Idaho border and
35
miles south of Jackson Hole and 40 miles south of Teton National Park
and
90 miles south Yellowstone National Park.
Star Valley is located in northern Lincoln County with Kemmerer as the
County Seat, 100 miles to the south, with satellite offices and the
Lincoln
County Fair are maintained in Afton. Lincoln County has 2,728,960
acres
of which approximately 90% is under management of BLM, state and
federal government.

Star Valley Volunteer Fire Departments operate with approximately 80
members and 17 fire fighting trucks and equipment, located in Alpine,
Thayne and Afton.
Star Valley Volunteer E.M.T.'s (Emergency Medical Technicians) operate
with approximately 80 Members and 6 ambulances, located in Afton,
Thayne and Alpine.
Afton Branch of the Lincoln Library has over 40,000 volumes with
100,000
plus book turnover each year. The Star Valley Bookmobile visits
Alpine, Freedom, Etna, Star Valley Ranch, Thayne, Bedford, Grover,
Auburn,
Fairview, Osmond and Smoot.
Star Valley Hospital has 15 beds and 24 beds in the nursing home.

Additionally, an excellent variety of facilities operate for
emotionally,
developmentally and physically disadvantaged children, as well as fine
child
care and pre-school.
Airport:
The Jackson Hole Airport, located 45 miles north of Star Valley, is a
jet
service airport with a lighted 6300' asphalt runway. The airport is
serviced
by Delta, American, Continental Express, United Express and Sky West
with daily flights.
The Idaho Falls Airport, located 78 miles west of Star Valley, is a
jet service
airport - Delta, Horizon, and other commuters with direct connections
to
S.L.C. International Airport.
